THE GRAMMY NOMINATIONS HAVE ARRIVED - WHO IN ROCK & METAL ARE LEADING THE CHARGE?
If you've been paying much attention to the news in the music industry lately, you'll be aware of the fact that the nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards have been released. The Grammys are a rather broad church these days, with awards being given out for everything from the poppiest of pop music to rock & metal to classical and even stand up comedy albums. However, it's the rock & metal end of things that we're most interested in and this year's nominees are a pretty cool bunch!
One of the heavy hitters in that end of things are Bring Me The Horizon. Amo is nominated for Best Rock Album, a category where we wouldn't be surprised at all if they pick up the prize. Other nominees for this category include Trauma by I Prevail and In The End, which looks to be the final album from The Cranberries. I Prevail are also up for Best Metal Performance with the song "Bow Down", joining such illustrious company as Tool ("7empest") and Killswitch Engage ("Unleashed"). Tool are also in with a chance of winning Best Metal Performance with "Fear Inoculum", the epic opening track from their new album of the same name. One of our more recent favourites Bones are nominated for Best Rock Performance with their song "Pretty Waste".
Bizarrely, an act that is nowhere to be found in the rock, metal and alternative categories for the 62nd Grammy Awards is Slipknot. This is very surprising considering their latest album We Are Not Your Kind was incredibly positively received by critics (including us) and peers alike. Considering that Slipknot managed to get their first #1 album in the UK since Iowa through that release though, it's probably not that much of a bad thing that the Grammy tastemakers seem to have forgotten about them. Swings and roundabouts, after all.
The 62nd Grammy Awards will air on January 26th 2020. It's safe to say that many people, including ourselves, will be keeping a close eye on how things go that night!
